The King's School Photo Update 2024
Children of The Lanes School,
Thank you for your continued support of The King’s Village through your generous sponsorship of a child’s education. Here is a recent photo of Redeemer, he is in Class B9.
Play based learning has become a focus in the Ghanian curriculum in recent years. The King’s School has quickly adopted these practices and the ‘Right to Play’ NGO has sent teams from Accra to train, observe and interact with The King’s School teachers. Their feedback was exceptionally positive regarding the progress at The King’s School. UK teams that have visited The King’s Village have also supported this play-based teaching.
Our youth leadership program continues to be a great success. The young people learn leadership and entrepreneurial skills and can also learn and teach musical instruments to younger children. We are looking forward to doing more art and musical activities when the charity ‘Spark of Hope’ comes to visit again this year.
We are delighted to announce that our remote Tehillah King’s School has received a grant of $150,000 to construct 9 new classrooms, a library and an office. The Tehillah School was started 10 years ago and educates 180 children suffering incredible financial hardship. As these children have limited opportunities for schooling we have been using a converted farm building for many years. Our teachers have done an incredible job and we are delighted to soon be offering primary and junior high education. Educating children remains the best way to lift children out of poverty. The new school will be built by early January 2025.
Education provides wonderful life opportunities for our pupils. Currently we have 2 ex Tehillah pupils (Jacob and Godfrey) that have returned to the school after finishing Senior High school to volunteer as teachers. Thanks to their fluent English and academic success more job opportunities will come their way.

2022, a year of achievement and success for The King’s Village Ghana | |
2022 has thankfully been a year of activity, success and development against a backdrop of Ghanaian (and global) economic challenge. Inflation has increased from 12% to 50% this year. The British Pound to Ghana cedi exchange rate is also experiencing dramatic fluctuation. We know this economic pressure impacts those living in poverty the most and we exist to serve and offer essential services to our region of Northern Ghana.
Maternity Services
2022 has been a dramatic year for our maternity services. I am delighted to confirm that the plan is for the whole Maternity Block to be open and functioning in early 2023. An incredible amount of building work and project management has taken place over the past year. Plus, many babies have already been born in the partially-opened facility. Building and opening the Maternity Block has been a gigantic task and we are in the final straight. The donations from our supporters are saving lives. We love saving lives. Our Maternity fund will stay open as we hope to fully open the building with no debt in 2023.
The King’s School & The King’s Tehillah School
What a delight to be able to run a full academic year, not blighted by Covid. We are currently educating 600 children at our two school sites. The literacy rates in Northern Ghana are the lowest in the country and we are playing our part to change that. Many of our pupils come from families of subsistence farmers and their income levels are incredibly low which leaves then vulnerable to years of a failed harvest. By providing an education our wonderful students will get further study and job opportunities that will help them escape a multi-generational poverty trap. £15/month provides an education and transforms a child’s life. Our schools help girls stay in education longer which protects them from child labour or early marriage and therefore dramatically improves their equality of opportunity. We have added the new classes to our sponsorship, which can be viewed HERE
2022 saw us open our much improved computer classroom. We have 15 new PC’s that can be used to bring our computer science syllabus to life. It is very rare to have this level of technology in a rural school, but computer skills are essential for our pupils.
It's no exaggeration to state that without our current sponsors we couldn’t keep the schools open, so our gratitude to each and every sponsor is overwhelming. We love educating children.
2022 also saw us start a youth leadership program which teaches leadership, entrepreneurial skills, learning musical instruments and teaching children.
Nutrition Centre
Hundreds of malnourished babies’ lives are being saved each year at our Nutrition Centre. Our dedicated and professional staff, provide medical care, high protein food and most importantly of all training for mothers and carers so they know how to provide as nutritional food as possible for their children, based on local ingredients. We love empowering mothers to care for their children.
Child Assessment Centre
By working with IJM and local services we house children that have been trafficked and forced into labour. They stay in our protected environment with us for a number of months, until they have can be re-homed in a safe family. We love rescuing children from trafficking.
Visits to The King’s Village
We have had teams from the UK and USA visit this year and if you’d like to join a future trip please contact us at officeuk@thekingsvillage.org A doctor from the UK wrote a blog post for us after his visit this year and you can read about his unforgettable experience HERE. We love hosting visitors and giving them a firsthand experience of The King’s Village.
We will never be able to fully articulate the difference your support makes to so many lives in the local communities served by The King’s Village.
Thank you so much

The children are eager to learn and play with their friends. Here they are with Teacher Christian and Teacher Dorinda outside their class B4, Teacher Christian has since left and they now have Teacher Timothy. Thanks again for your continued support and generosity, it makes a significant difference to the lives of these precious children.
