Sat 30 May 202029 May 2020
Dear Families,
I hope that you are all having a lovely half term week – isn’t the weather amazing? It is so lovely to be able to sit in the garden and go to the park and I bet that lots of you have had great fun in your paddling pools.
We are all fine at school and we have remained open throughout the holiday for our Keyworker families. Thank you to the staff for, once again, supporting this and enabling it to happen. As I am sure you can imagine, we have been really
busy getting school ready for the return of Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children in the next couple of weeks. The staff have been amazing and thank you to you all for your support and understanding as we enter unchartered territory once
more.
A letter about the new arrangements for Home Learning will be sent out on Monday. As more staff are in school we are moving to weekly work and this will be uploaded to the website on a weekly basis. We will continue to use the class
email system and will continue with our regular phone calls and Zoom meetings although these may not happen as often. Don’t forget that you can always contact us if you need anything and we will be open on both sites from Monday 1st June.
As time is going on I know that some of the children may be feeling a little worried and anxious. Things keep changing all the time and it can be difficult to feel settled. Some of the children will be thinking about a possible return to school and wondering what that may feel like. We will send detailed information out in the next two weeks to the parents of children returning to school and we are putting together resources to use at home and at school. Please encourage the
children to talk to you about any worries they may have and let us know if we can help in school.
My assembly this week includes the story ‘The Huge Bag of Worries’ which may help.
Take care everyone. We will be thinking about you all – keep in touch.

Fri 22 May 202022 May 2020
Dear Families,
I hope you all OK and feeling well. You are all doing an amazing job, and we appreciate the fact that many of you are trying to balance working from home whist also being with your children. I am still enjoying seeing all your lovely work – there is so much creativity out there!
Next week should be half term so there will be no home learning set for next week. We will start this again on June 1st.
We are still making plans to reopen school for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 and the more detailed information for this has been sent out to the relevant parents. This will also be available on the website. We will continue to be open for our Keyworker parents.
We are still reviewing our Home Learning arrangements as we move into the next phase. Work will be set on a weekly basis and will be uploaded to the website for Monday morning. You will then be able to plan your week and do the activities in your own time. Please don’t worry if you are not able to access or complete all the resources, these are here to support you and your child. We will work hard to maintain the quality and the staff who are not working in school will continue to respond to the class emails. Your year group teams will be in touch and we will continue with regular phone calls.
We are missing you all hugely and can’t wait until we can be together again. In the meantime this video is from us to you.

Take care everyone. Enjoy half term and we will be in touch again soon.

Letter to parents of Reception, Y1 & Y6 pupils
Fri 22 May 202022 May 2020
Dear Parents/Carers of children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6
Thank you to all the parents who have responded to let us know if you would be happy for your child to return to school at some point from June 1st. I know that this has not been an easy decision for you to make.
We have been working hard in school to try to be ready for a June 1st opening. However, due to the ever-changing situation we have pushed the opening week back to June 8th for Reception and Year 6 and June 15th for Year 1. This will give us time ensure that we have everything in place and will enable us to build up the number of children in school gradually. If all our children returned at once, we could have nearly 300 children in school. The children will be in for part of the week to start with and will be in school for whole days. This will be reviewed on a weekly basis depending on how things go in school and how the children settle.
Here is the revised opening schedule. This is provisional and may be subject to change.
Week beginning June 1st
Keyworker children 5 days per week at both sites
Week beginning June 8th
Keyworker children 5 days per week at both sites
Year 6 – Tues/Weds
Reception – Weds/Thurs
Year 1 – not in
Week beginning 15th June
Year 1 will be based at the Cator Lane site.
Keyworker children 5 days per week at both sites
Year 6 – Tues/Weds/Thurs
Reception – Tues/Weds/Thurs
Year 1 – Thurs/Fri
Week beginning 22nd June
Keyworker children 5 days per week at both sites
Year 6 – Tues/Weds/Thurs
Reception – Tues/Weds/Thurs
Year 1 – Weds/Thurs/Fri
Week beginning 29th June
Keyworker children 5 days per week at both sites
Year 6 – Mon/Tues/Weds/Thurs
Reception – Mon/Tues/Weds/Thurs
Year 1 – Weds/Thurs/Fri
At the moment we are planning to offer 2 days a week to start with so that we can be sure that all our systems work and to give the children a phased start back into school. As shown above, we will increase this to 3 and then 4 days over time but only if the situation within school at that time allows us to do so safely. We will be reviewing this on a weekly basis and we will inform you of any changes.
More detailed information will follow early in the week of June 1st. This will include your child’s ‘bubble’, the name of their teacher, their classroom, start and finish times, entrance to school and equipment that they will need. We are intending that they will not wear school uniform when they return.
As a school, we are really looking forward to seeing the children again as we have missed them all hugely. We are intending to continue with home learning and we will be teaching the children in school using those resources. Please be assured that all the decisions we are taking have the children at their very heart and we will do everything we can to make sure that the return to school is successful and happy.
Have a lovely ‘half term’ week and I will be in contact again during the week of 1st June.

Letter to keyworker families
Fri 22 May 2020Dear Keyworker Parents
Thank you for all your support during the time that we have been open to you. The staff have greatly appreciated all your kind words and support. Thank you for supporting us and only using the provision if you need us at half term. This has meant that we have been able to close on Bank Holiday Monday – the first day since all this began.
Next week, the provision remains the same. Children will need to bring a packed lunch please as the kitchen is closed. This will be the final week of before and after school provision.
Provision from 1st June
Going forward, regardless of any changes to other year groups we will continue to provide Keyworker care for 5 days a week if your child cannot be cared for home.
We have changed the system to bring us in line with the new government guidance as follows:
Reception and Year 1 children
- These children will be based at the Meadow Lane site.
- Times will now be 8.30am – 4pm. Please arrive between 8.30-8.45 am and do not pick up before 4pm. This is to ensure that we can manage the number of people on the premises at any one time.
- There is no before or after school provision.
- Entry will be through the toilet door or the outside door to Class 7. A member of staff will be on duty to direct you.
- Parents/carers are not allowed to enter the building so the children will need to come into school on their own.
- Parents/carers must maintain 2m social distance from staff and other households at all times.
- The children do not need to wear school uniform but will need to wear clothes suitable for varied activities including PE (no open toed sandals)
- A packed lunch will be provided for children but they can bring their own if you prefer.
- The children have been placed into 2 ‘bubbles’ and they will remain in these with the same teacher for the week. I will let you know which ‘bubble’ they are in next week.
Year 2 - 6 children
- These children will continue to be based at the Cator Lane site but not in the Year 2 unit. They will be in the classrooms in the main building on the ground floor.
- Times will now be 8.30am – 4pm. Please arrive between 8.30-8.45 am and do not pick up before 4pm. This is to ensure that we can manage the number of people on the premises at any one time.
- There is no before or after school provision.
- Entry will be through the outside door by the toilets on the main playground at Cator Lane.
- A packed lunch will be provided for children in Year 2 only but they can bring their own if you prefer. Year 3 -6 children will need to bring a packed lunch.
- The children have been placed into 4 ‘bubbles’ and they will remain in these with the same teacher for the week. I will let you know which ‘bubble’ they are in next week.
Thank you for your continued support. I will be in contact again next week with more details.

Notts County Council letter regarding school re-opening to R, Y1 & Y6 pupils
Sun 17 May 2020 -
Letter to Families 15.05
Fri 15 May 2020Dear Families,
Another week has gone by and yet again, the world around us is changing. You will all be aware of the announcement on Sunday by the Prime Minister regarding the potential return to school for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 on June 1st. As school leaders, we heard the news at the same time as the rest of the country. Guidance as to how this return can be achieved is only just beginning to come into schools from the DFE and the teaching unions.
As I am sure you can imagine, this announcement has led to a lot of confusion and we are still in the very early stages of planning what the re-opening of school will look like for our community. We are working hard in school to make sure that the school environment is ready – this is proving to be a mammoth task in itself. We have sent a separate letter to the families of our Reception. Year 1 and Year 6 children and a copy is on the website for your information.
This is a very complex and demanding situation to manage. My overriding responsibility as Head teacher is the safety and wellbeing of the children and staff in school. This process will be managed in a slow, planned way and we will need to start with small groups of children in order to ensure that all the procedures we have put in place are effective.
Going forward these new arrangements will mean that more staff will need to be in school. Therefore, we are looking to review our Home Learning arrangements as we move into the next phase. The teachers will have less time to plan and respond to emails on a daily basis. It is likely that learning will be set on a weekly basis and that you will be able to plan your own timetable for the week. We are determined to maintain the quality of learning and activities for the children and to keep the communication going through the class emails, phone calls and class Zoom meetings. This is all in the planning stages at the moment and I will be able to give you more details next week.
Next week is the last week of Home Learning until May half term. No learning will be set during half term week so that you can all have some relaxed time together. School will remain open for our keyworker children and I want to thank the staff for their commitment to this once again. We will resume our phone calls after half term and Zoom meetings will continue then too. Don’t forget – if you need us school is open all the time and you can ring us any time. We are here to help, support, listen, signpost to services……………….whatever you need.
My assembly this week features one of my favourite stories The Rainbow Fish, a story about friendship and kindness. These values are so important and those small acts of friendship, community and kindness make such a difference when life is feeling uncertain. Look out for my special guests this week!
Take care everyone. We can do this together and I thank you all for your support, kind words and lovely feedback.

Return to school information
Mon 11 May 2020Dear Parents
Hello to you all.
Just to let you know that we are awaiting further guidance in regard to the Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children returning to school, as announced by the PM yesterday evening. Once we have received this guidance and had an opportunity to assimilate it and consider all of the details, we’ll be back to you with our plans of how we will implement it.
All aspects of our plans will have the health and safety of the children and staff as a priority. We shall take each point and plan for its impact here at The Lanes in the best interests of our community.
Meanwhile the guidance for Keyworker children in school has not changed . Your child should only be in school if there is no-one at home to look after them safely.
Thank you as ever for your support.
