Letter from Mrs Revill
Sun 21 Jan 202419.01.24
Dear Parents/Carers
I am writing to inform you of my intention to retire from my post as Head teacher of The Lanes Primary School at the end of this current academic year. My last day of work at school will be Friday 26th July 2024.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents, carers, staff, governors and children for the support over the last 16 years since I became Head Teacher of Meadow Lane in September 2008. Without the support of our community the school simply would not be what it is today.
This has not been a decision that I have taken lightly but I know that, from both a personal and professional perspective, it is the right time for me to move onto pastures new and spend more time with my family and friends. It goes without saying that I shall miss all the people within our school; the brilliant staff, fantastic children, the parents and carers, members of the local community and the Governing body and I will leave with many great memories of my time as Head Teacher. Our school has grown and changed in so many ways over the years and it is amazing to reflect on my time at the school from the first day at Meadow Lane all those years ago.
I know that I will be passing on The Lanes to a new Head teacher in a very positive and healthy position. Our school is a great place to be; we have a great staff team who are committed, professional and dedicated and amazing children who work hard, achieve great results and are a real credit to our school.
I have two terms left at The Lanes and I want to assure you that I will continue to work hard until I leave to ensure a smooth handover to the new Head Teacher.
Thank you
Joanne Revill

Anti-social behaviour - Notts Police Statement
Sun 03 Dec 2023From Inspector Mike EBBINS, Broxtowe District Commander, Notts Police
Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) has been a local crime priority for the Policing team in Beeston, Toton and Chilwell for over a year now and I wanted to take this opportunity to provide an update.
An ASB problem was first identified in Summer 2022 after a rise in reported issues on the tram and in town centre locations caused by young people. At this time my team focussed our work with partners to design this issue out of these locations, this worked but only resulted in dispersing the problem into other areas.
After consultation with the community I launched OP POTASSIUM in the autumn of 2022. This was an overtime operation, paying for two officers, four hours an evening to focus entirely on our ASB hotspot locations and dispersal powers were utilised to reinforce the action. This operation continued into January 2023.
Whilst this operation succeeded in driving reports of ASB down, it also highlighted gaps in provisions for these young people. In short, regular contact with these young people had identified they were banned from existing youth provisions due to poor behaviour but as a result, were bored and had nowhere else to go other than our street corners. It was clear we were not going to Police our way out of this problem and we needed support from partners.
Broxtowe Borough Council sought funding for a diversionary scheme and in February 2023, Transform Training introduced a dedicated support programme for our first cohort of young people called POTASSIUM PLUS. This project provided activity, education and emotional support to a select group of young people. The Police enforcement budget was extended to ensure a continued visible support for the community and both our agencies worked closely together to share information and progress.
We are now a number of months down the line since the launch of OP POTASSIUM and there has been real progress with both the behaviour of our cohort and reported incidents of ASB in the area. Currently reported ASB in our area is 45% down on the previous year and most importantly of all, feedback from those residents who attended the original consultation has been positive with a noticeable improvement.
That said, it is important for me to recognise ASB has not stopped and those experiencing issues will not be comforted by me quoting statistics therefore I want to make a couple of appeals to you direct today;
Firstly, I want to encourage those experiencing issues to report them. It is vital we understand the extent of the issue in our area so I can resource appropriately and I hope the above news has provided you with some reassurance that we will take the matter seriously and take appropriate action. If it is crime in action then please call 101. If it is lower level behaviour then contact the Council ASB line and they will share reports with myself.
Secondly, the behaviour of our young people has not been acceptable in recent months and we all have a collective responsibility to address this. Therefore I need parents to take a moment to talk to their children about what acceptable behaviour looks like and the impact poor behaviour can have on our community. Then ensure you are asking those extra questions when your children are going out, where are they going and what are they doing?
Please be assured, my officers are actively engaged with your school and we are all meeting regularly to discuss behaviour, share concerns and work through solutions. A roll out of class inputs is also scheduled over the next few months. -
Anti-Social Behaviour letter from Broxtowe Borough Council
Sun 03 Dec 2023Broxtowe Borough Council
Anti Social Behaviour by young people will not be tolerated in Broxtowe and The Police, Borough Council, Schools, Retail and Landlords welcome reporting from residents and visitors to assist us in tackling incidents of anti-social behaviour and addressing the concerns of residents within our Borough.
To tackle anti-social behaviour effectively requires a positive and united approach from not just the Police, but other partner organisations which have a role to play, including Broxtowe Borough Council, Schools, Housing Associations and Private Landlords. Preventing anti-social behaviour is our primary focus as most cases can be resolved without enforcement however, when informal interventions prove ineffective, Broxtowe Borough Council's Legal Team may utilize a range of legal measures to protect vulnerable individuals and communities.
There are a range of tools and powers the Police and Local Authority have at their disposal to deal with young people which, where convicted may result in a criminal record. As parents it is important that you are aware of where your children are and what they are doing when they are out to prevent them from being drawn into ASB and enforcement action being taken against them. Reports of ASB may be in breach of tenancy agreements and as such, will be investigated and may result in possession proceedings.
Legislation grants “powers” to local authorities to deal with anti-social behaviour as opposed to imposing “duties” and where the Council deems action necessary this needs to be proportionate, in addition not all issues qualify to be investigated as anti-social behaviour:
• If the behaviour is lawful, you will be informed that it cannot be addressed under anti-social behaviour legislation
• Reports related to isolated incidents or non-persistent occurrences will be advised that anti-social behaviour needs to be ongoing and persistent for action to be taken
• If the reported incident occurred more than a month ago and is not currently affecting you, agencies cannot lawfully take action
• Where behaviour from the typical daily activities of others are reported as ASB these will be addressed through referral to an appropriate health professional, such as your GP
• If the reported incident has already been addressed by another agency, further action is typically not possible
• Reports of behaviour that are prejudicial, discriminatory, malicious, unreasonable, vexatious, or frivolous will be investigated and it should be noted that evidence gathered during the investigation may lead to action against the reporting party.
It's important to provide accurate evidence and witness information for your complaint to be progressed as action is dependent on the availability of up-to-date evidence to substantiate the offense and satisfy the courts. The Council is unable to accept anonymous reports of anti social behaviour as this prevents the Council from gathering the necessary evidence.
ASB should be reported to the following agencies;Police
Criminal Damage / Vandalism
Drug Misuse & DealingIntimidating / Anti-Social Gatherings
Intimidation/Harassment
Rowdy BehaviourProstitution
Kerb Crawling
Begging
Aggressive Dogs

This year, we are running a summer project from reception to Y6. We are encouraging all children to spend more time outdoors and to explore our local area. Please see attached the National Trust list of 50 things to do before you are 11 ¾. When we return to school after summer, we would love the children to bring in a few pictures of them taking part in some of the activities from the list to show as part of show and tell in their new class.

RAISING ASPIRATIONS FORTNIGHT
Fri 21 Apr 2023Dear Parents/Carers,
After the success of last year, The Lanes Primary School will be holding Raising Aspirations fortnight again across school this half term. The children will have the chance to meet a wide range of professionals and learn about the values, characteristics and skills required to succeed. We are also hoping that this fortnight will encourage the children to think about how they will contribute to their local and wider community when they are older.
We need YOUR experience! We are looking for a variety of people interested in spending a couple of hours talking to small groups of children about their career, educational routes or experiences. Many of our children are unaware of the career opportunities and pathways available to them. This is a fantastic way to provide them with first-hand knowledge of potential career paths and educational routes.
To that end, we are seeking parents/volunteers representing a wide range of careers who would be able and willing to be our presenters on one of the following dates below. Please note you can suggest family members or friends as volunteers. Presenters will need to be available from 1:30pm until 3pm on the day and may bring equipment, uniform or examples of their work, though this is not necessary. The children will have the chance to ask questions and learn more about the different careers available in a carousel style format.
If you or somebody you know is able to offer their time for one or more of the following dates, please let us know by completing the form via this link https://forms.office.com/e/6Wu9bpDc0c
Below are the dates for each year group – you do not necessarily have to attend the same session as your child’s year group.
Reception - Thurs 25th May 1.30pm – 3pm
Year 1 -Thurs 25th May 1.30pm – 3pm
Year 2 - Weds 17th May 1.30pm – 3pm
Year 3 - Mon 15th May 1.30pm – 3pm
Year 4 - Tues 16th May 1.30pm – 3pm
Year 5 - Mon 22nd May 1.30pm – 3pm
Year 6 - Tues 23rd May 1.30pm – 3pm
We will reply by email to any volunteers on or before 8th May 2023.
We really hope that this fortnight will give our children an understanding of what they could aspire to in years to come, both in terms of further education and future careers, and that they will go on to realise their full potential and fulfil their aspirations for the future.
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to email or pop into the office.
Thank you in advance for your support and involvement.
Yours sincerely,
The RSHE team -
THANK YOU MESSAGE FROM OPERATION ORPHAN
Sun 19 Mar 2023Hello,
I hope you are all doing well!
We have received your incredibly generous donation of £704.62 for our appeal to help those affected by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey & Syria. On behalf of everyone here at Operation Orphan, thank you so much to all of those involved in this fundraiser! We are so appreciative of The Lanes Primary School’s continued support. As all of our admin costs are underwritten, every penny you all have raised will go to helping those affected by the earthquakes.
This week, we have sent a second deployment of our Crisis Response Team back into Hatay, Turkey. The team is there supporting children orphaned or made vulnerable by the earthquakes. On CRT’s first deployment to Hatay, they partnered with Turkish social services and together, recovered and helped dozens of families by providing practical aid like toiletries, cleaning products, tents, water filters, funds, etc. The team has also visited several IDP camps where they passed out over 250 of our beautiful handmade blankets to children; they also played games like rounders and football with them. It is incredibly important to us that we bring these children, who have undergone incredibly traumatic events, a sense of normalcy as it helps them to cope and begin to process their experiences. The team will be in Turkey for the next week continuing to identify, make safe, and keep safe children affected by these disasters.
We could not help these children and families without our amazing supporters, like yourselves. Thank you all so much incredibly much!
Best Wishes, Emma

FUNDRAISING FOR VICTIMS OF TURKEY/SYRIA EARTHQUAKE
Tue 21 Feb 2023Dear Parents/Carers
We have been talking to the children about the events in Turkey and Syria and the devastation caused by the huge earthquake and they are really keen to help in some way. Therefore, we have once again teamed up with the local charity Operation Orphan. They already have one crisis team on the ground helping children and families and they are hoping to send another team out soon. They have advised that the best way to help at the moment is by asking for monetary donations. They do not take any funding to run the charity but every single penny raised enables them to directly support those in need. The children have decided that this Friday (24th February) we have a non-uniform day in school to support this charity. If you would like to make a small donation this can be brought to school with your child. If you feel that you would like to donate more you can do so by sending some direct to Operation Orphan via this link https://operationorphan.enthuse.com/CRT-Turkey-2023#!/ Thank you for your support. We will continue to be in contact with Operation Orphan and hope that they will come and share their experiences with us at some point. In the meantime please see below the latest update from Operation Orphan regarding the disaster:
The team visited lots of families who were isolated and not connected to the main response. These people have all had their homes destroyed. Twenty children (aged from 40 days to 17 years) who lost one or both parents were located and made safe. One six-year-old was still living in a car but now they have a large tent they can live in until a more permanent solution can be established. The new born baby was living in a make shift tent. Mum died going into the house for a blanket. We are glad to have been able to help them and bring some stability. We also visited three IDP camps and gave 260 hand crafted blankets directly to orphaned or displaced children. Large family tents, hand knitted blankets, emergency foil blankets, toys, hygiene products, generator, water filtration system, lighting, food and emergency cash were given to those in need, depending on their personal situation. The team also played lots of games and brought some fun as a way to help children begin to deal with the trauma. We completed visiting all the children on our lists. These lists were compiled by local people and sent to us by a lady from the region who is now living in the UK. Every referral was accurate. There are many more names of children that meet our criteria coming in and funding permitting, a follow up team is ready to be sent. Whilst the majority of orphans have been found by the state, and are now safe in the care system, there are so many of these children living in between the rubble and are unknown. People are so traumatised they don’t want to leave their homes and are reluctant to move to the many organised camps being set up. The scale of the disaster in this region is beyond imagination. The areas we visited are beyond recognition and if we have sufficient funding we would like to send a second team as soon as possible to help support children long term.
You can follow the progress of the team on Operation Orphan website and their Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/OperationOrphan
